Perspective on Meta-Boundaries

The judicious design of the electromagnetic boundary provides a crucial route to control light–matter interactions, and it is thus fundamental basic science practical applications. General approaches rely on manipulation bulk properties superstrate or substrate modification geometries. Due recent advent metasurfaces low-dimensional materials, can be flexibly featured with surface conductivity, which rather complex but provide an extra degree freedom regulate propagation light. In this Perspective, we denote nonzero conductivity as meta-boundary. meta-boundaries are categorized into four types, namely, isotropic, anisotropic, biisotropic, bianisotropic meta-boundaries, according conditions. Accordingly, latest developments for these kinds reviewed. Finally, outlook research tendency provided, particularly interactions by simultaneously exploiting metamaterials.
